Tim Lea brings a multidisciplinary and international perspective to his work, weaving decades of
experience in the arts, storytelling, and behavioral health into a deeply relational and humanistic
approach to psychotherapy. His lifelong commitment to exploring emotional struggle and
personal transformation, first as an artist and now as a clinician, informs his understanding of
how personal narratives influence self-perception, relationships, and behavior.
Tim earned his MFA from Columbia University and his MSc in Counseling Psychology from
Dominican University of California. He combines academic training with an attachment-focused,
trauma-informed perspective, integrating psychodynamic insight with cognitive and evidence-
based practices. His outlook is grounded in the recognition that mind and body do not operate as
separate systems but exist in dynamic relationship with one another, and that recognizing and
accepting how our stories shape the way we live and relate is an essential part of recovery and
lasting change.
Born in Scotland, raised in Australia, and educated in the United States, Tim brings a genuine
appreciation for the ways family systems, culture, and community affect emotional development
and healing. His previous clinical work has focused on addiction recovery, suicide prevention,
and mental health outreach, supporting individuals as they navigate substance use, trauma,
depression, anxiety, and major life transitions. He believes healing emerges through authentic
connection, self-awareness, and shared experience, and that community with others is essential
to sustained recovery. He considers it both a privilege and a profound responsibility to help
individuals move toward lives grounded in meaning and emotional and physical sobriety: it is
never too late to live a joy-filled life.
Tim is also a musician, endurance athlete, and proud co-owner of a pink cockatoo named
Chaucer.
