John Foord, MA, LMFT brings nearly a decade of experience working directly in the field of addiction recovery and co-occurring mental health treatment. Throughout his career, John has remained deeply committed to supporting individuals as they navigate the complexities of substance use, emotional distress, and personal transformation, while fostering a safe, collaborative space for self-discovery and growth.
John earned his Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Dominican University of California in Marin County and is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). He integrates his academic training with a humanistic therapeutic approach that is trauma-informed, interpersonal, experiential, and developmentally attuned, with a strong emphasis on meeting clients where they are. John values individualized care and draws from a range of evidence-based and experiential modalities, including Mindfulness, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
John’s clinical philosophy is rooted in the belief that meaningful change occurs when individuals are met with empathy, compassion, and genuine human connection. He also recognizes that sustained recovery often involves examining relational patterns and family systems, as personal growth is shaped through connection and relationship. By creating an environment that encourages vulnerability and self-reflection, he supports clients in developing self-acceptance and resilience, overcoming internal and external challenges, and moving toward meaningful, sustainable recovery. His goal is to help individuals move beyond the suffering associated with substance use and mental health concerns and toward lives marked by purpose, fulfillment, and emotional sobriety.
Outside of his clinical work, John enjoys hiking the hills of Marin County and nurturing his lifelong love of music—whether playing the drums or guitar, or simply listening. He considers it both an honor and a privilege to be part of each individual’s healing process and to help cultivate a therapeutic community that promotes healing, connection, and personal growth.
